How often should my dog be groomed?
That depends on your dog’s breed and coat condition. A good general time period is between four and eight weeks. Your groomer will assist in determining a suitable time-frequency based on your goals and expectations.
How long will the grooming appointment take?
Our salon and mobile vans offer in-and-out service.
At the salon, the dogs are dropped off at their appointment time, and we send a 15-minute heads-up before they are done. This limits the amount of time spent at the salon. The total time will vary depending on your dog’s breed, coat, and size.
What areas do the mobile vans service?
Pasadena Annapolis ($20 travel fee) Severna Park Glen Burnie Crofton Millersville
Severn Gambrills Crownsville
Arnold Odenton
What are our mobile maintenance program requirements?
Mobile requires a regular 4-8 week standing schedule for all clients. We will send you the date we will be in your area with availability, and then three days before your appointment, you will get a one-hour arrival window. We do not promise certain days or timeframes for our mobile maintenance program.
Our mobile program prioritizes dog grooming before it becomes necessary, ensuring well-maintained coates and efficient service. We offer personalized style options based on your preferred schedule, with shorter styles lasting up to eight weeks and fluffier cuts requiring more frequent visits.
What are mobile latchkey appointments?
Once clients are established after the first visit, we can move to a “latch key” appointment. Many of our clients will provide a code or key so we can come even when the owner is unavailable.
What if my dog cannot be crated at the salon?
We can accommodate dogs that cannot be crated due to behavior issues such as cage fright or aggression. However, the owner must remain in the lobby or parking lot for the entirety of the grooming appointment.
When should my dog have their first professional groom?
Grooming your dog should start at about ten weeks of age (after the second vaccination) to familiarize your pet with the sounds of the grooming salon/mobile van, noises such as dryers, and other dogs. These early exposures will help your pet acclimate to the grooming environment. A dog’s first six months of life are almost like the five years of a human’s. It is essential to begin early.
Do you do teeth cleaning?
We brush teeth, but we do not clean teeth. If your pet has a lot of plaque on its teeth, their gums are red, and it appears irritated, a veterinarian should be consulted.
What is gland expression?
A dog’s anal secretions can thicken and may lead to the glands becoming enlarged or blocked. This could cause your dog discomfort due to pressure, irritation, or infection.
If this happens, the dog’s anal glands may need to be manually expressed to drain them. Veterinarians and dog grooming professionals can do this. Maryland Elite Dog Spa only offers external expression. If internal expression is required, please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.
(We only perform this service upon request)
When is ear plucking necessary?
As the name implies, dog ear plucking is pulling or plucking out hair from inside a dog’s ears using tweezers or hemostats. The impetus for this, especially in smaller dogs, is that plucking excess hair will help keep the ear canal open and decrease the potential for ear infections. Poor air circulation and excess moisture build-up are often implicated as culprits for ear infections, and ear plucking is meant to help prevent those conditions. Your groomer or veterinarian can determine whether or not this service is necessary.

Why does my pet scratch after grooming?
Some pets itch as much as people would after shaving their legs or other areas. Another reason could be that the pet was matted, and the groomer had to use a very short blade to get under that matting and lift it away from the skin. For some reason, white or light-colored dogs are more prone to scratching after grooming. Please discourage your pet from scratching or shaking its head, as he or she can cause more irritation if left unattended.
Do you use heated drying cages?
No. These devices should not be used in grooming salons. Our groomers hand-dry pets after they have been bathed. This requires brushing out the coat to remove shedding hair while blowing it dry with equipment similar to your home vacuum cleaner, although in reverse and larger in volume. Your pet may be placed in a holding crate to assist with drying, especially if your dog does not react well to the hand dryer. A room-temperature air dryer circulates through the crate area. We never use heated circulated air.
